YOUR RESUME

While a resume itself cannot land you a job, it is the key that opens the door to the interview. It is all your prospective employer will know about you before they actually request to meet you in person. So you see – you must make a good impression on paper to land an interview.

Will everyone make a good impression on paper? No way! Everyone does not have a professionally prepared resume. Does that mean they are not qualified? Absolutely not! Many qualified people are just not able to organize their achievement in an effective way. This is where you get the competitive edge by submitting a strong marketing tool and not an autobiography or a simple job history to your prospective employer.

Human resources personnel and managers will take less than a minute to screen your resume. Screening is the process used to eliminate the people who they think do not match the job requirements. The first step is to separate the resumes before them into two piles: Selected and Rejected. This is achieved by matching the job applicant’s skills, knowledge, and abilities with the job requirements. The “Accepted” pile is further divided into strong candidates and candidates with potential. The strong candidates will be called for an interview. The potential candidates will be called if nobody in the first group makes a favorable impression. Which category do you want to fall in?
